Strange, we get the odd problem like that we some maxtor drives, but
the unit recovers and all continues.  

If you update to RELENG_4 or 4.10 there are some newer drivers.  Not
sure if it would help or not.  Perhaps open a support case on the
3ware web site. I have found them quite helpful in the past.
