Well, to clarify a bit: You have diana and mosca, both workstations, which you are logged on. on mosca (the FBSD box) you have above /etc/resolv.conf. So when you are also having problems to connect to the outside world, then I suggest you check the following things in order: on Mosca: netstat -rn #check if mosca really has a default route via the gateway to outside world ping 66.94.230.46 # thats one of the IPs from yahoo.com ping www.yahoo.com # check if DNS actually does something ------------- When we have come until here without failures, then your inet connection is functional and running, and we have to debug the local setup. Please do these commands, and paste/post the _full_ output especially the part about the icmp replies with ping. BTW: host/nslookup use different routines for resolving Names, they directly use DNS and will not look into files, applications like ping, ssh etc. will do name lookup via the gethostbyname(3) or getaddrinfo(3) syscalls, that include looking up the /etc/hosts file. so a : nslookup diana will not bring you a correct answer.
