Not to beat a dead horse but here are a couple of extra points to offer. >From a Base/Minimal install of 5.2.1 I got a current ports tree with cvsup-without-gui.
Next, I install linux-base: cd /usr/ports/emulators/linux-base make install clean edit /etc/rc.conf to contain the line linux_enable="YES" I then downloaded: bsd-jdk14-patches-6.tar.gz (Got this from www.eyesbeyond.com) j2sdk-1_4_2-bin-scsl.zip j2sdk-1_4_2-src-scsl.zip j2sdk-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.bin j2sdk-sec-1_4_2-src-scsl.zip (I got the j2sdk stuff from java.sun.com). Once these files were downloaded, I placed them in /usr/port/distfiles. Now cd to /usr/ports/java/jdk14 and do a make install clean. I just did these steps in the listed order yesterday and after a few hours of compiling java it was up. -Randy -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Steve Hodgson Sent: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 10:15 AM To: 'T Kellers'; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 'Chip' Subject: RE: java install errors >> -------------------- >> Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Can't detect initial thread >> stack location >> /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/gensrc/java >> /util/Curr ency Data.java:1: 'class' or 'interface' expected >> Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Can't detect initial thread >> stack location ^ >> > /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/gensrc/java/ > util/Currency >> Data.java:1: unclosed character literal >> Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Can't detect initial thread >> stack location ^ <snip> >> >> Stop in /usr/ports/java/jdk14. >> ------------------ >> What needs to be done to make this actually install correctly? >> Thanks, Chip >> I had this happen to me a couple of times, and the cause (for me) was that I hadn't setup linux emulation properly. This message (from a google search) seems to sum it up: http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg60015.html IIRC, I had to "make clean" in /usr/ports/java/jdk14 to get it work again once this had happened.
