True. FreeBSD *is* different. It's not Linux, that's for sure :-) Linux distributions tend to introduce local "Linuxisms" some times. This is not truly bad and one can easily understand the motives behind the additions (compatibility with other SYSV systems, ease of use, etc). Getting used to such Linuxisms is bad though -- as you have already discovered.
