You could edit rc.d remove the spaces and replace them with "." so 
it would make it look like:
daemon.daemon.daemon.daemon.

You could also edit the echo strings so that the spaces are at the 
beginning/end for all of them...  Either way, the output would 
essentially be the same:
daemon deamon daemon 
 daemon deamon daemon

man echo?
