Just in case you haven't seen it yet... Apparently there have been issues on some hardware with the way xorg (used to) probe the pci bus, see the `Unhappy Xorg upgrade' thread on -stable, particularly: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?1234292252.1524.38.camel and http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?49A81556.2040801 (which details the fix.)
