Sure. Right now, I don't know of any reason that it should crash with
more memory. :-)
Do either of you know if there is a PR in gnats for this 768 MB
limitation bug that I should mention in the commit log?

No, I just checked and I didn't put a PR in ... lame.
I think I discussed it with colin or kip, but I don't remember if we
ever figured out anything else.
Ok. I'll commit the patch shortly. (Note that what I'll commit will
remove another bit of unnecessary code.)
