Waiting until after the 2.1.2 release, I've made several significant i18n
changes, based on years of feedback. The next release isn't scheduled for
another month, so there should be plenty of time for translation updates.

These are about 46 changes so far. These need to be verified. There are
probably other instances. Feedback is welcome. Please email to

1) Replacing possessives -- usually Leader's Unit (%s's %s) -- with "the
    <nation adjective> <unit>" ("the %s %s").

Leader names aren't translated. I've tried to hand modify the msgstr
where it seemed obvious, and marked the string as fuzzy.

Note that these are always adjectives! I've tried to indicate the
<nation noun plural> in TRANS: comments. (Usually as Poles.)

2) Eliminated functions returning sentence fragments "in <city>" (or
at, near, etc.) When no city could be found, the string was null.

City names aren't translated. Sentence fragments are not good practice.
Using city names in this way is completely unnecessary, as each such
message also passed a pointer to the tile, and the GTK user interface
has a simple button to take you to the tile or city.

There may be more of these embedded in strings. Only those using the
functions were eliminated. Please indicate where something was missed.

These were frequently included in the msgid as %s%s. I've removed the
second %s, and marked the string as fuzzy.

There are two more of these %s%s, and I'm not sure how to deal with them.

3) Login messages were translated twice. Now, the canonical string
(msgid) is passed to the client.

This necessitated trimming some messages. I've tried to do it myself,
and marked the string as fuzzy, but it was not always obvious.

Thank you for your diligent help! My guess is that any existing fuzzy
strings should be cleaned up first, before worrying about untranslated.

I've seen some really bad auto-generated examples, such as the correctly
translated ", Dead" used for fuzzy ", Ready"! While it is true that
they share 5 out of 7 characters in the same position, that's not really
very good to display Dead for living users....
