Any contribution is welcome.  Those two should be pretty straightforward.  
Another thing to consider is to try to answer the questions on the Bug Report 
page: https://sourceforge.net/p/freecol/bugs

There is developer documentation in the doc/ directory.  I am revising it now 
as it is somewhat outdated.  However there are very few developers, we are 
quite time-poor, nor is anyone in your time zone.  So, beware of expecting 
fast and/or frequent help with basic development.
