I am quite worried about BR#2925.  I can only reliably trigger it on
one machine, but it manifests as XML corruption in the client-server
messaging.  My first suspicion is a race condition, but I also
sometimes see NPEs deep in the org.w3c.dom code, which is not
something we can fix.

Some years back now, Michael and I agreed that DOM needed to be
replaced, however it was a big complex job and other things took
priority.  ISTM now is the time to try again, especially as I have
this week off work and the renovations are nearly finished:-).  So
beware, there may be significant instability coming up in the git
tree.
