One of the things that ran during the election here was
a candidate's forum. Our cable channel is a bit automated,
so it just recycles through a bunch of stuff endlessly, with
no consistent schedule, but I did succeed in taping that
and the Linda Salas interviews on mail-in ballots (not sure
how much of that I got).

for C&R. In fact both Ralph and I continuously bashed our heads against
this. We got in because we had Ls and others wrote letters to the various
newspapers to demand 3rd party representation. The Times-Call sponsored the
candidate forum that was held at Westview middle school here in Longmont in
October of 2002 that brought all of the parties: Libs; Greens; Reform,
Constitutionalists as well as the Rs and Ds. The Colorado Coalition of
Independent Political Parties (CCIPP) took credit for this, with Greens
leading them - took the credit. It really didn't matter that they did all
the chest pounding, but the real fact is that Ls made it happen.
In fact, the CCIPP was formed without the knowledge of most of the LP. We
were told after the fact that we were a part of the CCIPP. The Greens
engineered the CCIPP to ride the coattails of our parties success. By hook
and crook. But it didn't really matter, because the outcome was positive.
If you think the candidates forum
would be useful for you to look at (all questions on the fly,
some of which clearly tilted), you're welcome to borrow the
tape, but I definitely want it back.
[|>] Could be interesting as training materials. Michael McKenzie might want
to have a copy. The rest of my team that haven't experienced this sort of
public grilling should probably see it. But it would be better if they saw
one of the tapes from 2002 in which county candidates went to these forums.
From what I understand
from Randy Luallin, (former Libertarian who ran in Ward 3)
[|>] Randy is an Independent. He was an Independent for County Commissioner
in 2002. I have never heard that he was a Libertarian. Randy's got style. In
2002 he wore a bright orange traffic vest at all events.
the copies the city provided are missing the last few
questions (ran out of tape, I suspect), so mine may be the
only complete copy.
Randy is also likely to be a strong supporter. He's off
on safari (yep, Africa) for a few months, but I'm sure
from talking to him, he's willing to throw any support
he's gotten from his run in Ward 3 in the direction of
a County Commissioner with a clue.

Republicans and Independents that didn't want to vote for Tom Mayer(D) or
Jim Murphy(R).
We're back from Steamboat on the 1st. I'm heading into
Boulder today, though, so if you can tell me where to
drop the tape off, I could do that. Maybe best bet is
to have you call my cell phone.
