See the freedombone-image commands. They're just bash scripts. There is also a manpage for freedombone-image.
Tests so far havn't been very extensive. I havn't run them for weeks at a time, but that will probably happen soon.Right. Do you use read-only file systems? I suspect it might be a trick to avoid corruption.
The first time a mesh router boots its file system will need to be writable so that an ID and keys can be generated. toxcore may also need to write to its bootstrap list. Maybe after first boot the file system could be made read only though.
