Also your latest EMM386 did not solve this.
When using NO UMB-manager at all, or using UMBPCI.SYS
everything works fine. When I use EMM386 ("noems x=test")
the WATTCP applications fail (DHCP/BOOTP failed, PING
failed). Also sometimes the loading of the 16bit nic driver
sometimes fails when loading high. These problems I could
reproduce on several machines (different nics) and did
not happen without UMB-manager or with UMBPCI.

I created a barebone image for you to reproduce the problem,
but I need to know which nic-driver I need to add for you
(nic name or ven/dev-ID would be fine)

As a future time I may look at expanding VDS support to allow known problematic network drivers in upper memory, so if you can send something which demonstrates the problem, that would be good. The files should provide a way to definitively detect that things are failing, if a crash isn't evident.

The FreeDOS machine has a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter according to XP device manager. Red Hat calls it a VT6102 (Rhine II). I hope that lies within the realm of your known card drivers.
