I am not specifically against OpenDOS or DR-DOS (use whatever DOS you like) but I prefer my DOS to be more open and free than that. The OpenDOS license is "look, but do not touch". For example, in the OpenDOS license agreement, in part 4 (relating to source code) it says:
>>>>>>>>>>> Caldera grants you a non-exclusive license to use the Software in source code form free of charge for personal, non-commercial use. The Software in source code form may also be used for commercial development purposes, provided a license is obtai ned from Caldera before any products or derivative works are shipped for commercial gain that utilize the Software , its components or derivative works. <<<<<<<<<<< And in part 1 (relating to when license fees have not been paid to Caldera) your use of OpenDOS is limited to non-commercial or educational use. Only if you are using DR-DOS for a non-commercial purpose (i.e. at home to play games and replace MS-DOS) does DR-DOS cost you nothing (but only for purposes of evaluating whether/not to buy it - ala "shareware") and you can redistribute it for other non-commercial use. But a business or other commercial user has to pay $$. Whereas FreeDOS (and almost all the utilities under "Base") are distributed under the GNU GPL, which means anyone can use it, provided the source code remains available to all. -jh On 3/29/07, tom ehlert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello Ladislav, > > > DR-DOS 7.3 really hasn't FAT32 support and isn't free but we don't discuss > > this system. > > The theme of the day is Enhanced DR-DOS (EDR-DOS) which has origin in > > OpenDOS 7.1 and is free. > it's open, but definitively not free > > > The license isn't GNU, it is something different > > and a little bit restriced but it is free. > > please take the time to READ the OpenDOS license before posting > nonsense. > > Tom > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Take Surveys.
