I've never used xHarbour or xBASE or MS Clipper. I notice that FreeDOS 1.0 had it (with srcs, natch), version 0.99.60 (using OpenWatcom as backend). > The upstream web site no longer points to DOS binaries: > http://www.xharbour.org/index.asp?page=download/dos/binaries_dos That link mentions DOS but only points to SourceForge, which indeed doesn't seem to have any obvious DOS binaries anymore (doh, why am I not surprised??). Actually, if anybody here knows how to test, the BCC55 (Win32) build might work under DOS with either WDOSX or HX: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xharbour/files/Binaries%20for%20Windows%20BCC%205.5/1.20.01/ > The old version that we included in the FreeDOS 1.0 distribution seems > to have incomplete sources. There was one guy I saw on some forum somewhere who seemed to be big on it, maybe even under DOS too, but I can't remember his name. In short, I dunno, most of us clearly don't use it, and I certainly never have. Sure, it'd be nice to have, but when they don't mirror DOS binaries anymore, it usually means they refuse to support it and don't want or need it. (Sign of the times.) I guess it's not worth worrying about (sadly). I mean, let's face it, most people use C/C++ anyways, for good or bad, so I guess "we" don't "need" it, at least not for FD 1.1. I wish I could do more to find out, but I don't have any other ideas. EDIT: Indeed their "Binaries" link only lists Windows and Linux. (What happened to OS/2, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, etc.??) EDIT #2: Seems 3.0 has been released a few days ago (July 18), and it still supports, among others, BCC55 (see above). http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.xharbour/topics?pli=1 Oddly enough, it says this: - DJGPP build in unified release replaced with OpenWatcom MS-DOS build. - DJGPP builds received support for .dxe dynamic libs. - MS-DOS build included in unified release package is now built with OpenWatcom rather than DJGPP. - OpenWatcom now builds in plain C mode (instead of C++) - Embedded libharu made available for MS-DOS Harbour builds, plus many other leveling of MS-DOS port. But then somebody tells that guy, "pls stop these misleading pseudo-announcements of yours ... the changes you post here, are those from older harbour versions' diff; harbour is currently at r16920". And he links to http://sourceforge.net/projects/harbour-project/ , which does have (only older 1.0 and 1.0.1) DOS binaries (2008-09-17): http://sourceforge.net/projects/harbour-project/files/binaries-dos/1.0.1/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/harbour-project/files/source/1.0.1/ Better than nothing, I guess. :-/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Storage Efficiency Calculator This modeling tool is based on patent-pending intellectual property that has been used successfully in hundreds of IBM storage optimization engage- ments, worldwide.
