 This is almost the opposite of what I found, also on a 486 
(DX50, 16MB RAM, ISA bus): 7-Zip was a memory hog and slower 
than Zip, and the compression ratio (for usual DOS files) 
was not much better. 
However, I prefer the Windows version of 7-Zip to WinRAR 
on new machines.
