Yes. Purging the DOSDIR is performed in basic mode to provide a “Clean" OS directory. This is what my interpretation of what Jim said he wants the installer to do. Step 1 is backup DOSDIR. So, anything that was in there is backed up before it is purged. Absolutely. And it enjoys doing it. In basic mode it makes many, many, many assumptions and performs multiple automatic adjustments.
