There's also others, of course, but I can't think of any obviously
superior tool, except maybe UNTAR (which also supports .gz):

So UNTARDOS.EXE is 22 kb, but you can presumably UPX that to half
that. Granted, that's less DOS friendly, but it's still a good
alternative if you're creating your own compressed archives and only
need unpacking.

I have tested untardos.exe, it is great. No problems with recent linux-stock-tar-and-gzip files created with "tar cvfz file.tgz folder".
This makes automating a build process easy.
But running it the first time on real hardware untardos locked the system with a "invalid opcode" error. Tested a few more times, no problems so far... But this makes me unsure about what to do...
