in what way is GEOS even related to FreeDOS which runs on PC's?
unless wikipedia has it completely wrong GEOS needs 6502 (commodore c42,
AppleII etc)

Well, there is/was a PC version of GEOS, which for a while now is Open
Source and available as PC/GEOS (to differentiate it from THAT GEOS you
were thinking of) at

PS: I don't think that GEM would be useless for use with FreeDOS, but
just as with PC/GEOS, it needs people to actually do some work on it....
