Or do you consider that the definitive guide? even as the book is quite old, it's the best (ecause only) gde you wll find. even as there has been many changes since 1996, the general structure of the kernel is mostly the same. you will also need some book(s) with 'DOS programming explained' and 'undocumented' in their title to make sense of the kernel source.
