Hi!

At this point, I don’t think there will be any Kernel or FreeCOM update in the
next OS release. Those would require a lot of testing and delay 1.4 for a long
while. I think it is more important to get some of those critical bug fixes out
to the public.

While I agree that bug fixes are important, the argument that
the kernel needs to be TESTED before it can be made available
to anybody who could TEST does not convince me given that Jeremy
shared https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35OQjLYdvJ0 as EARLY as
2021-07-24 to show that his patches support Win3 enhanced mode.

While we should not insist to be too scared to include a better
kernel in a TEST release now, more than THREE YEARS later, I do
understand the wish to make FreeDOS 1.4 quite STABLE quite SOON.

So as a compromise, I suggest to include BOTH kernel versions :-)

This will make it EASY for people to FINALLY test the improvements
after more than three years of waiting for a widespread binary
distribution, while the DEFAULT can still be the CLASSIC kernel.

Regards, Eric
