It is unfortunate you had a bad experience installing FreeDOS. We will need more information than you have provided to attempt to remedy any issues with OS or its installation. What "bug" are referring to, when does it occur, what should it do and what does it actually do? You also mention errors booting the setup. Are you referring to the booting the install media or the booting the installed FreeDOS from the hard drive. What are the errors you received? Neither ZIP nor UNZIP are part of FreeDOS BASE. ZIP is only present on the LITE USB because when the installer is run in advanced mode, it has the option to create a compressed ZIP backup of any existing DOS system files before installing FreeDOS. However, I agree that it could be useful in recovering files from such a compressed backup.
