Hi Roberto,

result of a quick test in dosemu: I used the install tool
to set sound to none for fm, speaker for voice and then
selected "update" to store settings. Now start, bat starts
some endless loop of animation. Running "indark2 8 0" by
hand without the "-d" of the batch file lets me access a
menu with the ESC key but nothing fancy happens apart from
that. Without the 8 0 options, the game tries to open PAK
files with nonsense names or crashes, so it probably makes
the PAK filenames by inserting the options into strings.

A typical reaction to other options than "8 0" is that the
main exe tries to open etage00.pak or etage0/.pak ;-). It
also sometimes starts up without complaining but showing
only a black screen while "playing" (the menu still works
unless you block it with the -d option). As there are no
docs explaining the options, I cannot tell much more.

The install tool is mouse-controlled MCGA, but it does not
seem to allow you changing drive, path or graphics mode.
You just unzip the file into the drive or path you want and
then run the install tool, it seems. FM music choices are:
None, Adlib, Soundblaster, Soundmaster. Sample/DSP soundcard
choices are: None, PC Speaker / Buzzer, SB with DMA, Voice-
master, Soundmaster, SB without DMA. It seems the install
tool sometimes sends data to the printer port and/or thinks
you want to exit it, so better unconnect your printer first.
Maybe this is part of some Covox sound detection routing?

Setting the FM sound to adlib seems to crash the game demo
at once when you start it in dosemu - as this is the default
setting, you should make sure to use the setup tool ;-). All
FM options seem to crash for me, actually.

As for the DSP sound: SB DMA sounds a lot better than the PC
Speaker / Buzzer option, even in dosemu :-). Not all actions
have sound effects though. I guess the plot of the demo is:
A man breaks into a house, tries to rescue somebody, a clown
puppet somehow kills him. Not really my taste :-p

By the way, if you select "Voice Master" then you see that it
actually means "Voice Master II, Speech Thing or DAC. This is
just another wording for "Covox D/A on the printer port" ;-).
The SB-without-DMA setting is silent for my in dosemu, dunno.
Some other soundcard options for sampled sound effects crash.

Eric
