I've personally had better luck with VMware, though VPC works okay.
VPC is probably slightly more intuitive to use if you've never
worked with a VM setup before (but neither is too difficult).  VPC
has a (to me) massively annoying bug which causes the keyboard to
sometimes stop working in the VM if you have locked the host
computer's screen.  Neither of them has built-in drive sharing for
DOS, so you'll have to set up network support à la LanMan to get to
your host computer's drives.
