Another DOS utility which I have used for dumping/writing floppy disk images is here: http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/utils/othersys/dcopy.zip
It allows for specifying drive geometry, so in the case that you are having trouble creating a dump because of a flaw in an unused area of the media, perhaps you can create a partial dump (eg. 50 out of 80 tracks) that still manages to capture all of the relevant data.
