If you're after a compact, no-frills text editor, I recommend checking out SVED (it's not on Liam's website).
SVED is a super-light editor. Although I developed it for SvarDOS, it runs seamlessly on any DOS system. It's not a feature-rich program like FD EDIT, but it's tiny, fast & reliable. And it works on just about anything.
