First, you should probably join the FreeDOS Devel mailing list. It is geared 
more towards developers than the User mailing list. There is a link to help you 
find it on the FreeDOS website.

While the official bug tracking for FreeDOS has moved over to GitLab under the 
https://gitlab.com/FreeDOS group, there are still a lot of old bug reports in 
the old sourceforge bug tracker. Looking into those bugs reports, verifying the 
bugs still exists and working to solve them would be a good start.

While some projects are no longer being fixed by their original developers, be 
sure that you thoroughly check on any project you want to help fix for an 
upstream version. If it is still being actively developed, that is where you 
would want to submit any fixes.
