Hello Chris,
I have actually tried editing the file in WinSCP today. I can view the
file, but when I try to save it, it says "Permission denied". But I
get the same message ("Permission denied") even when I try to save
files that are owned by my user.
You are right; the user permissions of the file should not be the
problem. It follows from this:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Project%20Web%20Filesystem%20Permissions
"Project-Member Permission (in "user" bits)
* Any user who is a member of a project with shell permissions gets
these rwx permission bits for the project's files.
..."
I now understand that the user bits in the permissions actually apply
to all members of a project with shell permissions. Could it be that I
am not a member of the project with shell permissions? I don't know.
In any case, you are right: this really seems to have nothing to do
with your ownership of the file. Either something is wrong with the
way I connect from WinSCP to SourceForge, or there is something wrong
with my user and its shell permissions for FreeMind project, or there
is some other cause. I am sorry for keeping you busy.
Best regards,
Dan
