I was checking out VMware's website today when I noticed this sentence:

The key part is the "patent-pending" part. Patents are bad news for
OpenSource implementations of similar projects... Even if you're not a
direct clone of the software.
Thoughts? I'm sure the Wine people have had similar discussions: I'm sure
Microsoft has at least *one* patent for some sort of Windows NT/95/98/2000
feature...
