Yes, that's very probably the problem.

However, this is also written in the new README!!
The version mr. Suzaki is trying to install is
really very old.  Can't some new CVS snapshots
be put up on the FTP site ?  I've asked before
for this to be automated, but it doesn't appear
to have happened.
