My name is Juan de la Cruz and I am finishing a degree on Translation
and Interpreting of English. Because of my job, I am very concerned on
the importance of the distribution of information without any censorship
(that could be implemented on a translation) and the dream of making it
possible for everybody to read anything without any language-associated
problem. I discovered Freenet by chance in an article that appeared in
an university free newspaper. I think this could be one of the greatest
revolutions in the field of information since the invention of the
Internet itself. However, I am afraid that so far this idea is not
reaching as many people as it deserves, just because of its language
limitations.

Do you want to re-wire the English internet or all of it? I know that
some people will find this project a nuisance (i.e. Chinese government),
but I think it is not a valid reason to be such an anonimous entity (and
I can tell you that, you are still an anonimous entity). I am not saying
that Freenet should advertise in McDonald's, but I think this idea would
expand really quickly in the university world. Again, the language
problem. English is still the main language in the internet (Uncle Sam
has won again), but it is not the ONLY one. There are a great deal of
cyber-languages (from spanish to japanise) and it is developing really
fast. If you don't get on this train now, Freenet will only be a guetto
in the cyberspace.

I know really little about computing or programming, but a great deal
about languages and translations. First of all, I would like to
contribute to the project by translating the Freenet project home page
into spanish. More, I can send messages to several translation
newsgroups to find out more volunteers to keep on translating it into
several other languages. The more languages, the more people will know
about it and use it. The second step would be to give notice of this to
the university community in Spain. The use of the internet is developing
fast in my country and right now there are some polemic about the
censorship of the media in the basque country. Freenet would be the
solution to this.

Finally, I would like to make a call to any other translator or
university student who had read this message to contribute to this idea.
Freenet should reach any country without limitations.

With many regards,

Juan de la Cruz
