I don't think there is any more risk to running Freenet than Napster or 
browsing the web.
That is not to say that there is no risk ... there just is no more risk :]

If you block access to your Freenet port, your node will not become part 
of the Freenet network.
The IP that has been scanning you might be a node trying to access your 
advertised port
but it will give up eventually when it finds no one home and you fall 
off their reference list.

If it is someone scanning and then trying certain ports manually, they 
will likely give
up quickly once noticing that you are reacting to their probings.

Zonealarm is a nice personal firewall and should offer some protection 
to your
other services that are more of a threat then Freenet would ever be if 
your open up
the Freenet port for outside use.
