You know... I've been an distant observer of the Freenet project since I
read about it on slashdot. Only until recently have I been digging into the
protocol and philosophy. Forgive me for not looking over the mailing list
archives before making this statement... but...

Perhaps "updatability" is not a feature which should be developed into
Freenet for the following reasons.

1. With the Freenet document distribution system - every time a person
publishes something (or theoretically updates a published work), they are
exposed ever so slightly to discovery.

2. If an updatability scheme is devised... weaknesses in that scheme can
provide a window for removal or corruption of the published work by someone
other than the author.

Freenet does not appear to be designed to take the place of the WWW, FTP,
USENET or IRC... it is something different. It has a different purposes.
It seems the major purposes of Freenet are.

1. To provide anonymity for information publishers.
2. To provide anonymity for information consumers.
3. To make desired information "indestructible"

If your publication does not require these features, perhaps another medium
is more appropriate.
