A common issue with converting to a new application or even when
going to an EMR from paper records is how to get all that
demographic information into the database.

FreePM can interface to most database applications to solve the
first one.

FreePM solves the later problem by being able to allow patients
to enter their own demographic information (and create the EMR)
without actually having access to the system. An example of this
can be seen from the FreePM login form.

If you have already logged in as Dr. Nemo then you will have to
close the browser and restart it.
There is a link on the login form that says "New Patients Begin
Here". Click on 'Here' and you will be presented with the new
patient form.

When finished the application goes back to the login form.
Now a clever user can get around in the demo because the secutiry
of it has been relaxed a great deal for ease of demonstrating the
application. In a real environment the Anonymous User would be
denied access to any other part of the application.

The solution is to have one or more kiosks setup for patients to
enter their information from. These can be very bare-bones PC's
or thin client machines with only a browser available.

If your practice is really high tech you could hand a tablet to
the patient connected to your LAN via wireless. <g>
