Maurice, Maybe try symlinking those two dirs to commonly looked at places. Example:
ln -s /usr/local/mysql/include /usr/include/mysql ln -s /usr/local/mysql/lib /usr/lib/mysql Don't know if it will work but you can give it a shot.
