My problem is I cannot authenticate using the PAM or System methods without running freeradius as root. When I comment out user and group in radiusd.conf to force it to run as root, it works great. I can understand System, since it appears to check /etc/passwd/shadow and probably needs the perms, but I thought PAM helped to get around that limitation.
