eap and /etc/passwd

maybe is it a stupid question :)
all eap method work fine but i have to put the cleartext password in the 
user file
we have a mail server and we want to use the /etc/shadow file  as the user file
my question
is it possible to have an eap authentication ( and which ) and the password 
stored in an /etc/shadow file
and how to configure freeradius to do that
