It would be great. Here's what I'd propose as guidelines:

a simple rabbit (no rabbit on top of a computer or something like that). he
could look on the internet for pictures of real rabbits, for inspiration or
to find one which appears to have the perfect positioning for a logo.

Keep it simple, and try to get something that can nicely fit as an icon for
an application. Not only this is useful for potential ports to mobile
devices, but the trend is getting to desktop computers as well: Gnome 3 and
Unity now pretty much look like they're starting "apps" with round icons.
The logo could be a complete rabbit, or just a profile view of a rabbit's
face.
