thanks for the response. unfortunately i am using thinstation which requires
cross compiling to target their older kernel and libs. i have been trying to
do this for a week now, but am not a developer and am having one problem
after another. at least i am learning a lot though! if i can get it working,
i'll let you know if this fixed the issue.
