The "new" nla code is known to cause assertion violations. That doesn't 
necessarily imply that the code is wrong, but it indicates that this 
code doesn't provide convincing arguments that it doesn't overflow its 
buffers. IMHO it would be nice to get the code cleaned up so it was more 
obvious that it was correct, but for now you should just disable these 
assertions if you use nla.
