The syntax is finicky. Apparently the hostname must come last, any remaining
parameters are not parsed. Have you tried the example below? This works
successfully for me in a very similar environment.
$ xfreerdp -u username hostname.domain.tld

Subject: [Freerdp-devel] Authentication failure with Win2008 with
current security updates (worked some time ago)
Hi,
A few months ago I was able to connect to Windows 2008 machine with
FreeRDP 1.0.1. Recently I've tried again and got:
> $ xfreerdp somehost -d mydomain -u username connected to somehost:3389
> Password:
> SSL_read: Failure in SSL library (protocol error?) Authentication
> failure, check credentials.
> If credentials are valid, the NTLMSSP implementation may be to blame.
I'm not an administrator of that system. I know the system is "Win2008
r2 64bit sp1" and there were installed some security fix related to rdp
in the meantime (which could be a reason?).
I tried with --no-nla, --ntlm, --sec (rdp, tls or nla) - with no result.
I have found some reports with the same error message, but none of the
mentioned solutions helped. Is it a know problem with current Windows
2008? I can provide some more detailed information if needed.
Regards
Marcin
