Hi, Regular RDP graphical messages are GDI calls. The DirectFB port makes use of a GDI software rendering library called libfreerdp-gdi. Ideally, someone would work on a GDI implementation making use of the DirectFB API more efficiently, such that hardware acceleration could be leveraged for many operations. Since implementing GDI is quite complex and hard to get right, having a reference software-only implementation on the side really helps. You can take a look at xfreerdp, it supports both its own X11-based GDI implementation and libfreerdp-gdi.
I've been repeating the same for quite some time, nobody ever worked on making a proper DirectFB GDI implementation yet. Maybe you could finally be that person.
