I'm sure I'm probably doing something wrong during the compile. I've done this before on 13.04 and it has worked marvelously, but that has been about a year ago. I compiled this on 14.04.4, with a copy of the Utopic (14.10) beta kernel (for a touchpad driver on my Chromebook). Any ideas?
