Yeah I've got my freesbie 1.1 installed on a 120GB, but it's a SATA so does that count? It's the only OS on there and I used the entire thing.

Has anyone in this list tried to install FreeSBIE 1.1 on harddisk larger than 40 gb as the only operating system? I receive error on IDE systems (not SCSI) larger than 40GB harddisk ..

Hi Michael,
Your post, and the way you installed freebsd on hd looks very similar to
my setup.
I personnaly started with 5.3 Freebsd, and installed cvsup, and changed
the release flag to 5_3, then cvsup stable-supfile and cvsup
ports-supfile.
Then i ran the freesbie scripts, and i get ___the very same errors than
yours_ : ie :
- Ran Packages (Selected every package and let it build, is this correct? Some of them didn't compile and the rest said that they were
already installed, so really this step did nothing)
Then i get no X, and nothing but a poor login and very basic commands
(ls, cat, ...)
I'm happy to hear that i'm not alone having these problems. Freesbie
devs seems to always say : "i tried the scripts last days ago from
scratch and they still works perfectly". So please freesbie devs, can
you post HOW did you do your way of success ?
Regards,
Remi.

I've gone through the steps and burned a CD, when I tested booting this CD through it boots into the command line interface. I would
like to start off by simply updating FreeSBIE to FreeBSD5.3 STABLE and
reburning the LiveCD with all the dialog boxes and so it boots into
the selection; console, fluxbox, xfce, installer.
Here are the steps I've followed:
- Installed FreeSBIE1.1 onto a Hard drive allowing 2.5Gb for the /
mount
- installed cvsup
- used the /usr/share/examples/cvsup/stable-supfile with the following changes
- host to 'cvsup2.au.FreeBSD.org'
- release tag to 'RELENG_5_3'
- Ran 'cvsup stable-supfile'
- Ran the instructions off the FreeSBIE website to CVS the scripts
- Installed cloop with command 'pkg_add -r cloop-utils'
- ran ./freesbie from the ~/freesbie directory
- Kept the defaults for directories; LiveFS, Home, Src, Iso
- Answered 'no' to embedded
- Answered 'yes' to BSD installer
- Ran Rmdir (no problems)
- Ran Mkdir (no problems)
- Ran World (no problems, took some time)
- Ran Install (no problems)
- Ran Kernel (no problems)
- Ran Fixit (no problems, kept everything as default, Should I change anything in here if I want it to be the same as the original FreeSBIE1.1 Live CD?)
- Ran Packages (Selected every package and let it build, is this correct? Some of them didn't compile and the rest said that they were
already installed, so really this step did nothing)
- User (no problems, kept everything as default)
- Building Iso
At the end of this I ended up with the FreeSBIE.iso which was 574MB. I tried to use burncd to burn it but it complained so I used the
following commands:
# cdrecord -scanbus
# cdrecord dev=1,1,0 -v speed=4 blank=fast /root/freesbie/FreeSBIE.iso
Note: I'm using a CDRW so I blank it first.
It does boot but nothing is in the /usr/X11R6 directory? If there is any more information I can give let me know. from
Michael
