Hi!

thanks Odhiambo! - I tried with the cloop-utils but something is still
wrong... In fact I am working with a system that I have recovered 3 days
ago from an old level0 dump... so I am not sure what's missing in
comparison to what I worked with successfully!

For what I am trying to do- I am using freesbie from the ports
collection to make a customized FreeSBIE running ZOPE/Plone on
PostgreSQL and Apache and some GIS/WebMapping applications with data in
the database and on disk. The CD is also supposed to have /var, /etc and
/usr memory-devices. It features the swapfind, mountdisks and xconfig
extras.

I do get as far as creating a (more or less) vanilla FreeSBIE based on
FreeBSD-5.4-p13 that runs Apache on a local IP (192.168.X.X) and on
which I can startxfce4 fine if I setenv NO_COMPRESSEDFS for the ISO
creation. I can use it uncompressed- but then I obiously lose some space
on the CD.

I have just now tried to install cloop-utils from the ports collection,
make pkgselect, deleted .done_pkginstall, .done_clonefs and .done-iso
and did a 'make iso'.

I am using VMWare Workstation on Windows to test the iso images before I
burn them on CD. (I have seen FreeSBIE images I created before work in
this and I have also seen that CDs that don't boot in VMWare don't boot
on my real physical machines..) but now when it gets to mounting the
filesystem the boot process stops at:

acd0: CDROM <VMware Virtual IDE CDROM Drive/00000001> at ata1-master PIO4
Waiting 15 seconds for SCSI devices to settle
Mounting root from cd9660:/dev/iso9660/FreeSBIE
setrootbyname failed
iso_mountroot: can's find rootvp
Root mount failed: 6

 and I do a manual

mountroot> cd9660:acd0

to make it go further. It then says

Mounting root from cd9660:acd0
Pre-seeding PRNG: kickstart.
Loading configuration files.
Entropy harvesting: interrupts ethernet point_to_point kickstart.
mount: /dev/md0.uzip: No such file or directory
Starting file system checks:
Generating MFS /etc partition
find: not found
cpio: not found
mtree: not found

and stops.

Help! is this related to cloop-utils? Also what gave me quite a headache
with the system that finally died and which I restored to an earlier
stage afterwards was that apparently a Memory file-system had
accidentally been installed on that machine for a number of
mountpoints... and I didn't know how to get rid of them. How can that
happen? How do I avoid it happens in the process of FreeSBIEs creation?

II.)
I am trying to customize what's on the CD- I understand I can use
customroot to copy files to places in the filesystem after package
installation. I am using this to copy my PostgreSQL 'repository' to
/var/pgsql and to get some conf files (rc.conf) to the final system. But
how can I use scripts to, e.g. create a Zope or PostgreSQL instance in
the freesbie-fs rather than create one in customroot and copy it over?
(one problem with this is, that startup scripts in ZOPE will contain the
freesbie-fs-/PATH and not work unless I edit them before ISO creation).
I am also trying to install some software using python-tools in a
#!/bin/sh script ('cd PATH && python setup.py') but keep getting PATH
(or '/usr/local/PATH') does not exist errors- even though I know they're
there.

Sorry if all this is at a noob level- I am not particularly FreeBSD
experienced – just fiddling with it to get this to run! Again I’d very
much appreciate every little ray of light into the shadowy corners of
FreeSBIE’s creation secrects….

Thanks in advance
