you can always view the thickness maps of individuals by doing file->load
curvature in tksurfer. mris_anatomical_stats will give you summary
statistics, either overall, or by parcellation unit if you specify -a. You
can generate it for different surfaces (e.g. ?h.white and ?h.pial) where it
makes sense, although things like volume won't change.

the information- is it necessary to specify a surface file? Also, can I
