My main concern with powerful ARM processors is power efficiency. We don't need
700MHz, and even with underclocking and power-saving modes I'm really curious
how efficient these Corex A8s can get.
The Atmel 32bit AVR UC3 chips pull .8mW/MHz:

At 66Mhz this is roughly 50mW. Of course it depends on the radio, but it would
be good to know what kind of power budget we have. I'm concerned if we're
going to pull power from a battery we've really got to think about power
efficiency too. Nothing annoys me more then something that eats batteries!

Cortex A8 SoCs at 700MHz or more can bought for $5 or less in medium
quantities. There is no shortage of reasonably priced processors with a
good peripheral mix these days.
