Hi Folks,

It finally got through to me that piggybacking my "freedv-server"
project on the FreeDV project was getting people annoyed. Thus, it is
now called "Algoram Digital Voice Server" or "DVS" for short, and is to
be an entirely separate project from FreeDV with its own community. Work
has been progressing and we'll be starting testing and opening the
mailing lists very soon.

While DVS in its inital release will only support interoperability with
FreeDV, its architecture would support any digital voice system and we
intend to add other popular digital voice modes. It is built to allow
mix-and-match of different codecs, modems, FECs, and protocols and to
make it very easy to experiment. I am most interested in supporting
generic SSB transceivers and Algoram's hardware devices (which provide
an SSB and FSK mode as their main interface to generic softmodems), but
it's an Open Source program and can be made to support anything you wish.

     Thanks

     Bruce Perens K6BP
