The problem is just that the signal is symetrical and you cannot see in the waterfall which sideband is used. Also on an SSB transceiver you cannot "hear" the difference. If the signal is weak you might think the decoder is not working correctly or the signal is too weak. If you have to try the other sideband in those cases it is not very comfortable.
