Here's an interesting article about ecomm sites. It's a short recap of a
study on which sites are profitable, according to revenue. The key data are
"61% of companies with revenue between $100,000 and $999,000 reported
profitability" and "Smaller-sized businesses, generating between $10,000 and
$99,000, came in second to their slightly larger counterparts with 57%
showing profitability". If these companies are profitable, it follows that
they spent significantly less than their revenue on software (development or
licensing). That speaks well for FreeTrade and similar open-source
products. By offering lower cost of ownership, FreeTrade helps the smaller
business be profitable. The majority of ecommerce companies who choose the
million-dollar solutions are not profitable.
